Welcome to Country
Sandra King

A perfect example of transformation, we are honoured to have Sandra King perform Welcome to Country.
Sandra is a Brisbane-born Aboriginal woman from the Quandamooka, Mulunjarlie, Bundjalung, and South Sea Islander peoples with a rich cultural heritage. As one of the first Aboriginal models in the 1970s, Sandra completed her training in Deportment and Grooming, followed by modelling courses with Billie North Promotions.
Sandra became a highly sought-after model, securing numerous bookings for newspaper fashion articles and fashion parades for prestigious clients such as Myer, David Jones, Sportsgirl, and various clothing and manufacturing businesses. After a successful modelling career and raising a family, Sandra returned to the industry she loves.
In 1988, Sandra was at the forefront of the fashion industry by exclusively using Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander models in her fashion shows. Additionally, she championed diversity and inclusivity by featuring Aboriginal models outside the conventional sizes of 8 and 10.
In 1990, Sandra completed a one-year full-time Trainee-Manager course with Buckingham's Modelling Agency (now Vivien's), which gave her the confidence to establish her own business. Her models were in high demand for photographic, runway, and promotional work throughout Queensland.

MEET THE FOUNDER OF SILVER SIRENS
Faith Agugu
Faith Agugu is an Australian leader in the global positive ageing movement, which seeks to champion women aged 50 plus, and re-define how they approach ageing. She has always had the instinct that she would get better with age and is hoping to inspire other women into the same mindset.
In 2018 Faith launched Silver Sirens, Redefining Ageing, creating an age-positive community to challenge the negative narrative that surrounds women and ageing, and their inaugural Redefining Ageing event was held the same year.
Iconic Australian women took the stage to speak about this potent and transformational period of our lives. Health, beauty, business, leadership and spirituality were all on the agenda.
As a trained psychotherapist with a Bachelor of Social Science, Faith has helped hundreds of women at her Sydney-based practice, The Healing Process, to experience their ‘third age’ as a renaissance of self and true rebirth.
Faith believes that women often internalise cultural messages that warp our ideas of age into something to ignore or even fear, blinding us to our own accomplishments, sexiness and worth.
Faith’s vision to be of service to a wider audience has garnered an audience that doubles year on year, and national media attention, such as feature articles on Silver Sirens in Mindfood Magazine, New Idea and The Guardian, She has also made several television appearances on SBS's Insight and Channel 9's Today Extra.

Our 2025 Charity Partner
The Forgotten Women

The Forgotten Women provides homes to homeless older women, the fastest-growing homeless demographic in Australia today. Homelessness in Queensland has risen by 22% since 2017, with over 10,000 people in Southeast Queensland reported as homeless on any given night. More than 850 of them are women over 55, another 1800 older women are accessing crisis accommodation, and another 1500 are sitting on the housing register awaiting affordable housing options. It is a sad reality that many women are living their final years in poverty and homelessness.
Housing affordability, systemic gender-based financial disadvantage, and a lack of superannuation have formed the perfect storm for these women. More than 308,991 women over the age of 55 call Greater Brisbane home. Alarmingly, 30% of them will have $0 in superannuation, but the figure will double to 60% if limited to women aged 65 to 69. Sadly, many, many more are living in fear, suffering Domestic and Family Violence with financial and housing supply barriers keeping them from exiting to safety. 1 in 6 women in Australia experience domestic violence; age is not a barrier to DFV.
The core mission of The Forgotten Women is to provide fit-for-purpose housing and individually tailored support for homeless older women. This initiative underscores the belief that everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place.
All funds raised at the event will be donated to The Forgotten Women.
