“Let movement be a conversation with your body,
not a battle.”
Faith Agugu
As we come to the final week of our Body Positive theme, our focus is:
Movement in Midlife and Beyond
I want to honour something important: body positivity isn’t a destination. It’s a practice—one we return to again and again, especially as our bodies change with age, hormones, seasons, stress, healing, and life itself.
This week, let’s gently shift from “How do I look?” to “How do I live well in this body?” And let movement be about connection, not correction.
Here are a few soft invitations you can try:
Choose appreciation over assessment.Instead of scanning for what you’d like to fix, name three things your body is doing for you today (breathing, carrying you, supporting your heart, digesting, hugging, healing).
Redefine movement as nourishment.Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be powerful. A walk, a swim, stretching, yoga, strength for steadiness, dancing in the kitchen—anything that helps you feel more present in yourself counts.
Notice your inner language while you move.If your mind starts criticising your body, pause and reframe: “Thank you for carrying me.” “I’m allowed to go gently.” “This is me taking care of myself.”
Let your body set the pace.Midlife movement is often about consistency, mobility, balance, and joy—not punishment. Choose what feels sustainable and kind.
Practice body neutrality when body positivity feels too far away. Some days, “I love my body” might feel impossible. On those days, try: “This is my body, and I’m learning to treat it with respect.”
A simple Week 4 reflection:
What kind of movement helps me feel most like myself?
What does my body need more of right now—strength, softness, mobility, rest, or play?
What is one small act of care I can offer my body today?
And before I sign off—next month Silver Sirens turns 8.
