"In midlife and beyond, we must reflect on our past financial choices and understand how they have impacted our current situation. By learning from these experiences and adopting new strategies, we can rebuild our finances and secure our future well-being."
Taga Iose
Like many women, I was not socialised to be comfortable talking about money, so I have enjoyed this month's focus on this crucial topic.
Last week, I attended Taga's Rebuilding Your Finances in Midlife & Beyond session, anticipating a wealth of practical tools for managing my finances. However, Taga offered something even more valuable: a fresh perspective on the mindset and attitude necessary for making lasting financial changes. This insightful approach filled the missing piece in my understanding of successful financial management during midlife and beyond.
Taga's emphasis on the importance of self-compassion and gratitude resonated with Me. She acknowledged the need to show kindness to oneself and appreciate the positives in life. I also appreciated her advice on managing finances during midlife, which involves being adaptable, setting SMART goals, and prioritising financial security for the future.
After attending Taga's insightful masterclass, here are five key takeaways that can serve as a valuable reminder:
Self-Awareness: Taga emphasised the importance of self-awareness, helping us identify and overcome negative self-talk and unconscious biases. Understanding our thoughts and behaviours allows us to adopt healthier patterns and improve our well-being.
Understanding Brain Functions: Taga explained the role of different parts of the brain and how they influence our behaviour. She discussed the importance of managing the "chimp brain" to prevent impulsive reactions and focus on the desired outcome.
Setting SMART Goals: Taga highlighted the significance of setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) goals. This approach helps us maintain motivation, create a clear roadmap for success, and track progress more effectively.
Adapting to Change: In our ever-evolving world, being adaptable is crucial. Taga's masterclass encouraged viewers to embrace change by focusing on our circle of control and practising the concept of 'failing forward' to grow from challenges.
Building a Positive Mindset: A positive mindset can lead to a happier life. Taga shared techniques like practising gratitude, developing a growth mindset, and self-compassion, which can help individuals cultivate positivity and resilience.
Taga's views on rebuilding finances in midlife and beyond centre on the importance of being proactive, self-aware, and adaptable in financial planning and decision-making. We can successfully navigate our financial journey and secure our future well-being by staying informed and taking the necessary steps.
