Silver Sirens Seven Days of Self-Care

With the silly season almost upon us, we can often put off doing things for ourselves until ‘after the holidays’. Then the new year rolls around and we are exhausted before we even start.

As a self-confessed chronic self-care procrastinator (try saying that three times), I know how easy it is to put yourself last – especially at this time of year.

So, I have come up with a 7-day self-care challenge for us all. Now I can hear you all saying “I don’t have time!”, but I promise you, these things will only take 15 minutes a day, and you will feel much more prepared to address the holiday season, looking your fabulous party best.

Day 1: Morning Mindset Mojo

Kickstart your day with 15 minutes of positive affirmations. Stand tall, channel your inner superhero (my personal favourite is Wonder Woman) and repeat empowering statements in the mirror. Whether it's "I am unstoppable" or "I radiate confidence," affirmations set the tone for a day filled with fabulousness.

Day 2: Nature Nourishment

Escape the hustle and bustle for a 15-minute nature break. Take a brisk walk, breathe in the fresh air, and soak in the natural beauty around you. Connecting with Mother Nature is a surefire way to recharge your spirit and boost those feel-good vibes.

Day 3: Laughter Lift-off

They say laughter is the best medicine, and I couldn't agree more. Spend 15 minutes watching a funny cat clip on YouTube, listening to a comedy podcast, or reminiscing with a hilarious friend. Laughter is a natural stress buster, and a daily dose will keep you shining bright.

Day 4: Self-Care Swap Delegate a task you dread for 15 minutes. It could be housework, paperwork, or anything that's been lingering on your to-do list. You're not just outsourcing; you're reclaiming your time.

Day 5: Playlist Power

Create a mood-boosting playlist for 15 minutes. Whether it's songs from your youth or tunes that make you feel unstoppable, curate a soundtrack that'll lift your spirits whenever you hit play.

Day 6: Gratitude Walkabout

During a short stroll, list things you're grateful for. It could be the sunshine, the breeze, or the fact that you remembered to wear matching socks today. Gratitude walks are a quick mood booster.

Day 7: Dance Break Delight

Crank up your favourite tunes and let loose for 15 minutes of dance therapy. You don't need fancy moves – just sway, twirl, and shake off the stress. It's not about looking like a pro; it's about feeling the rhythm and letting go. Bonus points for recruiting a dance partner (even if it's your pet)!

Day 8: Ok, so it’s a bonus day – but you’re worth it! Zen Zone

Find a quiet spot, set a timer for 15 minutes, and dive into a moment of mindfulness. Whether it's meditation, deep breathing, or simply enjoying a cup of tea without distractions, this daily dose of Zen will help you centre yourself and tackle the day with grace.

Remember, you can't pour from an empty glass, so taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do for everyone, and everything you care about.
